Brooklyn in the Balance

The vote is tomorrow.

"Economic development" in one way or the other. Ratner's plan brings a sports team to a neighborhood in central Brooklyn that is ill-equiped to handle the increased traffic (ever been at Atlantic & Flatbush?), the Extell people just want to build housing, and then sell off some land to build the arena anyway.

Laughable.

Brooklyn brownout cake?

Not good...

If you've ever had Brookyn Blackout Cake, you know how dark and rich it is. My fave is the one from Tillie's on DeKalb Avenue, but Little Red Hen Bakery in Park Slope also does it pretty well. Anyway, we noticed last night that the AC wasn't really getting the job done, and then we found out this AM that Con'ed had turned down the juice.

Today will be the killer, I think, as the system is already strained, and it's hottest of the three days. Tonight's show at Il Sogno will probably be inside, lest I wilt.

The fight, part 25

"How was your weekend?"

I can only imagine the answer these 5 guys are giving to their coworkers around the water coolr this morning. What was that thing about "fighting the terrorists over there, so we don't have to fight them over here?"

Yeesh...

Google Moon - Lunar Landing Sites

Excellent. Google points its mapping application to Luna, and location of the Apollo landings. Sadly they only have a small sector of the moon's surface, so if you navigate left or right the map wraps around, prooving that the moon is in fact a mobius strip.

Zoom all the way in for a nice detailed shot of the moon's material. Bright in the highlands, darker in the maria.

Congress to add 2 months to Daylight Savings Time

Gotta love it. More daylight, unless you're a farmer.

Freedom is on the march (unless you're a woman in Iraq)

Iraq's Constitution Cedes Strong Role to Islamic Law (truthout.org), because it's hard work making sure the men stay on top, by force and coercion, if necessary.

Good intentions, gone wild.

The right side of the page...

Nice blog entry from over at Jeffrey Zeldman Presents The Daily Report.

PodcastPickle.com

PodcastPickle.com

This is an excellent site for podcast listings.

A lot of people are asking me what a podcast is? If you check here at Wikipedia, there are some good answers. In short a podcast is an audio file that's on the web, and it's available for download from a website.

So what makes it special is that you can get software (iPodder, or iTunes 4.9, or Odeo's sync, etc.) that will automatically download new 'shows' of the podcasts you subscribe to. Think of it like a newspaper - every day you open the door, and there it is. Like the newspaper, you can take a podcast with you.

This has two killer applications: 1) radio shows that are only on specific times can be listened to at other times, and 2) people can create their own virtual 'radio stations'. Craigsmusic.net is a great example.

Enjoy!

iTunes Podcasting - the hard way

So... it seems like iTunes is not updating their podcast directory as often as people would like...well, at least as often as I would like, since they haven't updated my podcast feed to the new url...

But, thanks to this helpful blogger, there's a way to go...

If you're using iTunes, go to the advanced menu, and click on Subscribe to Podcast. In the input, simply paste the url for my podcast:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/aBrooklynPodcast

Then, enjoy! Let me know if you like the shows...

Odeo

So, if you're not an iTunes user, or just impatient since they haven't put the new feed up yet, check out http://www.odeo.com

My podcasting will be sync'ed through there are well as iTunes, and I'm looking for more places, so if you know of any more, clue me in.

Podcasting

Hey - so I'm going to be using podcast.ricksvoice.com for my podcasts. Live shows, jams, tracks, etc.

I'd really appreciate it if you checked it out, and if you like the music, tell someone about it who you think would like it. And tell me, what you think about it.

All the best...

And Ratner's folly finds a rival

And as if on cue, a rival appears.

This is a better proposal for downtown Brooklyn. Let's hope the powers that be see the light before a protracted fight over our nice little borough.

The fight

Wow...our hearts go out to the people of London.

So Bush says that we have to fight the terrorists abroad so we don't have to fight them here at home.

Looks like London won't be buying that line anymore. I thought Blair's statement was extremely poignant, really moving and truthful, especially how he described the "defense" of our values. Read: not offense...

Congrats to London

Today the city of London, England was awarded the 2012 Olympics.

The 12 people in New York City who actually wanted sport's international athletic competition to come to New York were heard wailing in Rockefeller Center around 8 AM today.

The other 8 million of us heaved a collective sigh of relief.

Jets Stadium: defeated.
Olympics: defeated.

All we have to do is beat Ratner's little Nets adventure in Brooklyn, and we win the trifecta.

Holy Bandwidth

Hey - looks like the site / blog was down for a few hours yesterday, due to my hosting company not being thrilled with the amount of bandwidth I chewed up from the Hardly So podcast. Yikes! Oh well...tonight I'm going to try to figure out what's up, for the moment, enjoy!
