New Orleans / Jazz Fest

Excellent time in the Big Easy last week. I visited New Orleans (first time) and caught a few days of the Jazz and Heritage Festival. The music was great and plentiful, and the food was out of sight. I don't think I will ever forget seeing Dave Brubeck, getting up and doing a little stomp. There was a year at Brown where Time Out never left the CD carousel. I got back to Brooklyn, took the CD out, and couldn't believe the recording date - 1959!! I'm also now officially a fan of Christian McBride. His band's opening song was a 20 minute jam, his bassline driving the whole thing like a juggernaut. I'm sure you know this, but if you get the change to make it to Jazzfest, do it. Make sure you stop at Liuzza's near the track for the BBQ shrimp po-boy.
